Job Description

Our client is a leading provider of advanced visualization and display solutions, delivering innovative technology and engaging digital experiences for major organisations across a diverse range of industries.

They are now looking to appoint an experienced Director of Project Management Office (PMO) to establish and lead project governance, delivery standards and portfolio management across the organisation.

This is a senior leadership position with significant visibility across the business. You will work closely with the executive leadership team and functional leaders to ensure strategic initiatives are appropriately prioritised, effectively resourced and consistently delivered.

The successful candidate will combine strong PMO and portfolio management expertise with the leadership skills required to develop project teams, influence senior stakeholders and drive greater consistency and accountability across a complex, cross-functional organisation.

Key Responsibilities

PMO Leadership & Strategy

  • Establish, develop and continuously improve the organisation's PMO structure, processes and governance framework.
  • Define and embed project management standards, methodologies and best practices across waterfall, agile and hybrid environments.
  • Ensure the project portfolio remains aligned with strategic business objectives and executive priorities.
  • Provide executive leadership with clear reporting and insight into portfolio health, performance, risks and key metrics.

Portfolio & Programme Management

  • Oversee the full lifecycle of major projects and programmes, ensuring delivery against agreed scope, timelines and budgets.
  • Prioritise and balance the project portfolio according to strategic value, organisational capacity and risk.
  • Establish consistent processes for the intake, assessment, prioritisation and approval of new initiatives.
  • Maintain visibility of project dependencies, risks and overall portfolio performance.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Lead, mentor and develop a team of project managers and programme leaders.
  • Establish clear performance expectations, KPIs and development pathways for the team.
  • Build a culture centred around accountability, collaboration and continuous improvement.

Cross-Functional Leadership

  • Partner closely with Sales, Operations, Engineering and other functional leaders to enable effective project execution.
  • Act as a senior escalation point for critical project challenges and cross-functional issues.
  • Create strong communication and alignment between project teams, functional stakeholders and executive leadership.

Resource Management & Governance

  • Optimise the allocation of resources across the project portfolio to improve efficiency and utilisation.
  • Identify, manage and mitigate risks relating to project scope, schedules and costs.
  • Develop and maintain standardised project management tools, templates and reporting frameworks.
  • Implement effective systems for monitoring project performance, risks and dependencies.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives designed to improve organisational efficiency and project delivery outcomes.

About You

You will be an established project, programme or PMO leader who is comfortable operating at both strategic and operational levels. You will have experience introducing structure and governance while retaining the flexibility required to operate successfully within a fast-moving, cross-functional business.

You should bring:

  • 10+ years of progressive project and/or programme management experience.
  • At least 5 years' leadership experience managing project managers, programme leaders or a PMO function.
  • Experience working within complex, cross-functional environments such as manufacturing, technology integration or a comparable sector.
  • Advanced project, programme and portfolio management expertise.
  • Strong strategic thinking and executive-level communication skills.
  • Demonstrable experience developing and leading high-performing teams.
  • Strong financial awareness and resource-planning capability.
  • Excellent risk management and problem-solving skills.
  • The ability to influence effectively across all levels of an organisation.

A Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering or a related discipline is expected, with an MBA or other advanced qualification advantageous.

PMP certification is required or strongly preferred. Additional qualifications such as PgMP, PMI-ACP, Lean or Six Sigma would also be beneficial.

Why Join?

This is an opportunity to take ownership of a strategically important PMO function within an established technology-led organisation serving major customers across multiple industries.

You will have the opportunity to shape how projects are governed and delivered across the business, develop the organisation's project management capability and work directly with senior leadership on the prioritisation and execution of key strategic initiatives.

The organisation offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision and prescription coverage, life and disability insurance, a 401(k) programme with company match, and access to financial planning support.
