A major digital sports channel and global brand, based in Europe, currently has a very exciting permanent opportunity available for an experienced Director of Data Science to join its team.
Leading the Data and Analytics team, you will design and drive forward the data and analytics strategy across the channel. This will include refining the company's data infrastructure, conducting data analysis, identifying trends related to user behaviour and providing strategic guidance on the use of data, to maximise the number of acquired and retained users across video content services, platforms and products.
You will have expertise in quantitative analysis, data mining, statistical and machine learning and the ability to present data with vision beyond the numbers. You will gauge a clear understanding of how the company's users interact with key digital assets and provide insight, influence and support product road-map and content decisions.
By designing and building experiments, recommendation systems and algorithms, you will identify, monitor and evaluate key product metrics for digital content, understand the root causes of changes in such metrics and build models of user behaviours for analysis. You will also develop and implement end user facing data, for example statistics, infographics and interactive features.
Applicants will ideally have a degree or similar qualification or equivalent experience in Statistics, Computer Science, Machine Learning or a similar quantitative field or subject, along with a proven track record of leveraging analytics and large scale data to drive significant impact for an international business.
You should be able to demonstrate expertise across statistical modelling, predictive analytics, machine learning, NLP (natural language processing) and data mining algorithms. Any additional experience of multivariate regression, logistic regression, support vector machines, bagging, boosting, decision trees, lifetime analysis, clustering, mathematical optimisation or stochastic processes would also be highly advantageous.
Candidates must be proficient in statistical analysis tools such as R, S-Plus or Stata, have previous experience with SQL and large data sets and have scripting skills ideally using Python, PHP or Perl. Exceptional communication skills are also vital, along with the ability to explain complex data models and implications to all levels of the business.
