Data Systems Engineer

An experienced Data Systems Engineer is required to join the technical division of a leading digital sports platform, based in Europe, on a fixed-term contract basis until December 2020. 

As a Data Systems Engineer, you will coordinate database and big data infrastructure activities, covering data security compliance, 24/7 service quality, maintenance and support.

You will take ownership of user requests, service tickets, incidents, evaluate application and database performance and manage development and system integration projects. Your responsibilities will also include installing, configuring and troubleshooting relational databases, to support broadcast systems, applications and analysis tools.

Managing the implementation, operation and support of the applications infrastructure, you will also play a key role in the application design process. This will involve contributing to the definition of new application specifications, providing technical analysis, modelling processes for the network architecture and proposing innovative solutions for the continuous improvement of both new and existing applications and tools.

You will take the technical lead on projects and be responsible for project scoping and planning, overseeing developments and deployments of applications and coordinating external project resources. You will also ensure the potential impact of new projects is managed and communicated to other teams.

Candidates must have a proven background in database administration, integration and development, including the design and maintenance of database management systems such as SQL Server, Oracle and MySQL.

Administration and troubleshooting skills across cluster systems (Hadoop, Cloudera) and Unix / Linux distributed systems are essential, with any additional experience of Windows systems administration being advantageous. You will have managed on premise virtualised environments such as VMWare and Hyper-V, with any additional cloud-based experience (Azure, AWS) being beneficial. 

Previous experience of working within a DevOps environment is required, along with strong scripting skills (Python, Bash, Perl).

Any additional knowledge of broadcast technology across video and audio file formats, video compression, audio processing, real-time video and buffer management would be ideal.

This position requires fluent English language skills (both spoken and written), along with excellent communication, interpersonal and leadership skills. Strong analytical skills and the ability to resolve issues quickly and proactively are vital.  

Flexibility to travel occasionally as part of this role is also needed.
