Broadcast Systems Engineer

A major global sports broadcast organisation based in Europe is looking to recruit an experienced Broadcast Systems Engineer on a permanent basis, to be responsible for all broadcast IT systems and infrastructure activities.

As a Broadcast Systems Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, operation, support, maintenance, security and 24/7 service quality of broadcast media solutions across the business. This will include technologies across traffic, content acquisition, editorial, post production, studios, gallery production, digital archiving, linear and non-linear distribution (OTT, VOD, live video streaming) platforms.

You will take ownership of user requests, service tickets and incidents, evaluate the performance of broadcast applications and undertake system modification, development and integration projects.

Playing a key role in the application design process, you will contribute to the definition of broadcast application specifications, provide technical analysis, model processes and propose innovative solutions for the continuous improvement of both new and existing media applications and tools.

You will take the technical lead on projects and be responsible for project planning, overseeing system development and application deployment and coordinating external project resources.

You will also specify and evaluate test processes for all systems being implemented and ensure the potential impact of new projects and applications on infrastructure is managed and communicated to other teams.

Candidates will have extensive broadcast engineering and systems administration experience, with expertise in designing, commissioning and supporting live production / studio equipment, broadcast software and OTT video systems.

Your broadcast media technology knowledge will cover audio / vision mixers, switchers, routers, cameras, monitors, decks, signal processors, IP video streaming, VOD (video-on-demand), non-linear editing, subtitling, graphics, PAM / MAM (production / media asset management), video servers and IP distribution systems.

You will also have an excellent understanding of audio and video file formats, codecs, broadcast standards, video compression, audio processing, forward error correction for real-time video and buffer management. The ability to define, configure and monitor quality control parameters related to AV signals and files will also be required.

You will have managed both on premise and cloud-based virtualised environments (VMWare, Hyper-V, Azure, AWS, Alibaba) and be very familiar with designing tapeless workflows.

IT systems administration skills across networking protocols, IP networks, virtualisation, storage, databases, Windows, Unix / Linux operating systems and implementation architecture (SOA – Service Oriented Architecture, ESB – Enterprise Service Bus, BPM – Business Process Management) would also be highly advantageous.

Any additional programming language skills (Python, Java, Powershell) and experience of API integration via REST and SOAP would be ideal.

Applicants must be able to demonstrate strong leadership and project management skills, the ability to assess infrastructure needs and resolve issues quickly and proactively, along with exceptional communication skills in English (both spoken and written).
